Psychosocial Team

The LAMPSIS psychosocial team consists of three psychologists and a social worker, who are present daily in the two pediatric-oncology departments of the General Hospital of Thessaloniki, IPPOKRATEIO, and the General Hospital of Thessaloniki, AHEPA, and in an auxiliary capacity in the hematology department of the General Hospital of Thessaloniki, G. PAPANIKOLAOU.

The purpose of the group is to investigate the needs of families, provide them with possible financial support, inform them of their rights, and connect them with the relevant agencies and services. It also provides psychological support and counseling to hospitalized children and their families, making an individualized and holistic intervention in each family system.

Throughout the entire hospitalization, our goal is to provide continuous and stable support not only to the sick child, but also to the wider family (siblings, parents, relatives). Through collaboration with the medical and nursing staff, we aim to ensure the smooth and safe adaptation of each family to the hospital environment.

At the same time, the psychosocial team participates in public awareness and information activities, in improving public perceptions and attitudes towards childhood and adolescent cancer, and aims to reduce prejudice and discrimination concerning it. In addition, its responsibilities include the coordination, supervision and support of the volunteer team active in the departments.
