The actions of the Association “Lampsi” concern a wide field of needs coverage, both of children suffering from neoplastic diseases, and of their families. This effort is based on the voluntary contribution of the members and friends of the Association. Our volunteers, compose a group of people with creativity and willingness, who stand dynamically next to each of our actions with selflessness and surpassing any personal motivation. They constitute a living part of “Lampsi”, which operates, evolves and adapts to the needs of children who are sick, with their ultimate goal the best conditions of hospitalization until the recovery of these children and their smooth reintegration into society.

Ways to make a voluntary contribution

  • Daily attendance in the departments: The daily needs of creative employment and psychosocial support of hospitalized children are covered by the Volunteer Group of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
  • Special occasions/events: As part of our effort to create a pleasant atmosphere in the pediatric oncology departments, we organize various events, with ideas from the children who are hospitalized and from the volunteers who work there every day. These events also involve voluntary participation by individuals (or groups) who do not attend the departments every day, but who can contribute based on their skills, such as music, dance, theater, clowning, etc. with the aim of transmitting messages of joy and optimism.

The main activity of “Lampsi” is the organization and/or participation in various events. The goal is, on the one hand, to raise awareness and inform the public about childhood cancer and the Association’s activities, and on the other hand, to financially support the work of “Lampsi”. Our volunteers are always there, helping to organize, staff and carry out these events.

The Association’s professional volunteers, coming from various fields (e.g. photographers, teachers, translators, technicians, etc.), offer their services pro bono whenever a corresponding need arises.

Selection of volunteers / Start of action

Interested volunteers are selected after a personal interview with the Association’s volunteer manager. The field in which the volunteers are activated is co-designed with them, depending on their knowledge, experiences, abilities and skills, always focusing on the needs of the Association and the availability of each volunteer. Those who are selected are trained and offer their work with the supervision and continuous support of professional staff.
